Land Acknowledgement

Nelephant Montessori School acknowledges the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe peoples and is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties and is within the land protected by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum agreement. Today this gathering place is home to many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples and acknowledging reminds us that our great standard of living is directly related to the resources and friendship of Indigenous peoples.

Statement of Equity

Nelephant Montessori also acknowledges the ongoing marginalization of Black, Indigenous, People of Colour, and 2SLGBTQQAI+ people and commits itself to an open-ended and self-aware approach to diversity, inclusion, equity and accessibility that reflects our Montessori values and vision. This includes respect-based practices that oppose discrimination while nurturing empathy and celebrating differences in our classroom and in our community. In 2020, the Anti-Bias Anti-Racism (ABAR) Committee was formed in response to a call from members to recognize the importance of leading our community to take actions that support justice for all.
