Toddler Class
The Nelephant Toddler Class is a warm, loving community of children aged of 18 months to 3 years old.
Our benevolent, devoted staff encourage the children on their path of independent learning by presenting many carefully selected Montessori materials. The Montessori trained directress in this environment selects activities to present to each child that they may later choose to work with on their own. Additionally, she may gather the children for small group lessons (2-3 children) and classroom circle times. This classroom has a 1:5 ratio, including a trained Montessorian and two Early Childhood Educators.
Dr. Montessori’s philosophy is closely adhered to and the materials in the environment are specifically designed to allow the child to feel autonomous while completing their tasks. These activities will help them improve their level of focus and concentration, enhance their self-care and life skills, and advance their physical precision. The exploration and engagement in this community occurs naturally and with gentle guidance in order to prepare the child for their continued Montessori journey at the Casa level.
The toddler children take part in a daily outdoor program that includes time in the playground, walks within the community and enjoying the garden under the trees. They are involved in a weekly music program that includes singing, dancing and some simple musical instruments. Our toddlers are also introduced to some simple French vocabulary throughout their day.
To ensure a familiar and consistent environment, children attend five days per week (either half or full-days). Hours are now:
Full-day 8:30am-4pm with extended care options available.
Half-day 8:30am-11:30am with extended care options available.
We encourage all families interested in Montessori education in the Toddler and Casa Programs to visit Nelephant for a tour and classroom observation.
